Grace-based giving shares resources with those in need and is accountable to handle money in an honorable way. Grace-based giving remembers God's role in supplying the resources to give. Grace-based giving results in recipients giving thanks and glorifying God.

We can find four tips for embracing a lifestyle of sacrificial service to others in Philippians 2:19-30. Tip #1: Focus on the spiritual welfare of a few specific people. Tip #2: Serve with other servants. Tip #3: Be willing to serve in whatever ways are needed. Tip #4: Be willing to take some risks in your service.

The Cross

The cross of Christ is where God demonstrated His love for a rebellious and sinful people by sacrificing His son, Jesus, on the cross to pay for our sin debt. The cross allowed a way for a hopelessly sinful people to be reconciled to a perfect God. How absurd is it for Christians to be antisemitic and blame the Jews for Jesus' death! God's act of love at the cross should impact the way we view others.

Peter calls all believers to set an example of excellent behavior as this will refute the slanderous things that ignorant people say about Christians. People are watching us and our actions can refute misconceptions people have about followers of Christ. Jesus gave us the ultimate example by dying for the unjust. This is the gospel and the source of our strength.

How Much Do You Value Truth?

Paul argues that if Jesus is real, it is only logical to dedicate our lives to His message. God places a high value on truth. If truth matters, then we should be deepening our own convictions about the claims of Christ and living out our lives in light of those truths.

When Paul tells Timothy to suffer hardship with him, he is asking him to make a voluntary choice to suffer for the cause of Christ. The question is whether this suffering is really worth it. Paul argues that it is and gives three metaphors that demonstrate that the sacrifice and suffering indeed are all worth it. He describes the sacrifices a soldier, an athlete and a farmer all make to reap the benefits that come later. The real question is do you believe it?
